Celebratory stamp marks the beginning of the celebration of 90 years of standardization

Standardization began in the 1920s with the development of individual normative documents for the needs of the economy. However, there was a growing awareness of the need for an organized approach to standardization work, especially in the fields of mining, electrical engineering and construction. As a result of these efforts, on September 16, 1934, the Yugoslav National Committee for Standardization (JNKN) was formed under the leadership of Professor Dušan Tomić, Dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Belgrade and President of the Association of Engineers and Architects. His portrait is featured on the newly issued postage stamp. As a special institution within the Ministry of Trade and Industry, from 1939 it had the role of the national standardization body, founded in accordance with the 1938 Standardization Regulation.

After World War II, the role of the national standardization body was taken over by the Federal Commission for Standardization, founded in accordance with the 1946 Standardization Regulation within the Federal Planning Commission. Since then, the name and legal form of the national standardization body have undergone several changes, and today's Institute for Standardization of Serbia is the legal successor to all of them.

The issuance of the postage stamp marks the beginning of the celebration of 90 years of standardization. The Institute is planning numerous activities in the coming period to mark its jubilee, which will culminate in a Celebratory Academy in October.
