Standardization and standards are crucial for the EU's economic development, market integration, and achieving key goals like the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the digital and ecological transitions. Despite their importance, there is a significant shortage of standardization education, with few higher education institutions (HEIs) in the EU offering relevant courses
One of the main reasons is the lack of experts—more than 100,000 standardization professionals.
This problem has been recognized by the European Union, which is funding the Edu4Standards project under the Horizon Europe programme, with the goal of developing modern teaching tools and materials. Therefore, a new CEN workshop “Guideline for harmonized training on Standardization for higher Education within the European Union” is being held within Edu4Standards. This workshop will enable these materials to become part of a harmonized framework for integrating standardization education into EU higher education programs.
Harmonized approach to the education on standards
The workshop aims to:
The workshop, for which the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) will provide technical support, is being implemented at the proposal of Prof. Dr. Knut Blind (Technical University of Berlin and Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI).
How can interested organizations get involved?
