CEN is organizing a workshop for students across Europe with the aim of advancing standardization education

Standardization and standards are crucial for the EU's economic development, market integration, and achieving key goals like the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the digital and ecological transitions. Despite their importance, there is a significant shortage of standardization education, with few higher education institutions (HEIs) in the EU offering relevant courses

One of the main reasons is the lack of experts—more than 100,000 standardization professionals.

This problem has been recognized by the European Union, which is funding the Edu4Standards project under the Horizon Europe programme, with the goal of developing modern teaching tools and materials. Therefore, a new CEN workshop “Guideline for harmonized training on Standardization for higher Education within the European Union” is being held within Edu4Standards. This workshop will enable these materials to become part of a harmonized framework for integrating standardization education into EU higher education programs.

Harmonized approach to the education on standards

The workshop aims to:

The workshop, for which the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) will provide technical support, is being implemented at the proposal of Prof. Dr. Knut Blind (Technical University of Berlin and Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI).

How can interested organizations get involved?

  1. By reviewing the documentation and submitting comments on the draft Project Plan – the deadline is December 15 (access the documentation via the link https://www.cencenelec.eu/news-events/news/2025/workshop/2025-11-17-edu4standards/).
  2. By participating in the kick-off meeting, which will be held online on December 16, 2025 (you can register for the meeting by sending an email to the address bora.buelbuel@din.de).

c) By joining the workshop to participate in the development of the CWA document – the CEN Workshop Agreement. The goal of developing the CWA document is to elaborate and concretize the teaching methods and training content for higher education in the European Union, and above all, to strengthen standardization education and training across the EU.

Following the kick-off meeting, all interested parties can join the work on the CWA document. Membership and participation in the activities are free of charge.
