Meeting with the author of the award-winning innovation

Every year on 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science celebrates the crucial role women play in scientific advancement. It serves as a powerful reminder of the need for equal participation of women in scientific research, not just for ethical reasons, but also for the benefit of progress itself. In 2013, the UN General Assembly recognized the importance of this issue in its Resolution on Science, Technology and Innovation. This resolution highlighted the complex challenge of achieving gender equality and the need for a multifaceted approach, encompassing various levels and sectors.

Standardization organizations also bear a responsibility to foster gender equality, as it strengthens the inclusivity and effectiveness of their work. By encouraging the active participation of women across all levels, they can ensure standards benefit everyone and reflect diverse perspectives.

The need to empower the fairer sex in our country was one of the topics at today's meeting with Olga Petrović, a member of the scientific ecosystem in Serbia. Her innovative project was awarded at the European competition EIT Jumpstarter 2023. You will be able to read more about it in the first issue of the ISS Bulletin „Standardization“ for this year, in which the main focus will be on the importance of gender equality in standardization.
