New Regulation on Inspections of Lifts in Use

The Regulation on Inspections of Lifts in Use was published in the “Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia”, No. 105/2024, dated 26 December, 2024, and entered into force on 3 January 3, 2025. With the entry into force of this regulation, the previous Regulation on Inspections of Lifts in Use ("Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia", No. 15/17) ceased to apply.

The new regulation introduces new measures to improve the safety of existing lifts. It prescribes minimum safety requirements for lifts, as well as a checklist of safety requirements with defined priority levels. It also prescribes deadlines for implementing the necessary protective measures to achieve an adequate level of safety for such lifts, which is given in Annex 1 of this new regulation. A novelty introduced by the new regulation compared to the previous one is that the criteria and conditions under which the appointed bodies for lift inspection can take a lift out of use are more precisely defined, i.e., the deficiencies that significantly impair the safety of lift users are defined. These criteria are defined in Annex 2 of the new regulation.

Article 18, paragraph 14 of the new regulation defines that the appointed bodies for lift inspection must meet the requirements of the Serbian standard SRPS ISO/IEC 17020.
