Standards for solid recovered fuels (SRF)

A series of 9 ISO standards on the subject of solid recovered fuels (SRF) was recently published. The first one, which is now available as a Serbian standard is SRPS EN ISO 21637:2021.

International standards for solid fuels derived from waste support the development of production and trade in this type of fuel. Using municipal solid waste has a positive impact on the environment by reducing landfills as well as carbon emissions.

ISS NTC Z183, Characterization and management of sludge, which mirrors the work of ISO/TC 300, is responsible for the adoption of SRPS EN ISO 21637:2021, Solid recovered fuels - Vocabulary (idt ISO 21637:2020, EN ISO 21637:2020) that provides agreed terminology, common terms and harmonized definitions that ensure more efficient communication at the international level. This International standard is also crucial for understanding other standards in this area: ISO 21640, ISO 21644, ISO 21645, ISO 21656, ISO 21660-3, ISO 21663, ISO 21912 and ISO 22167. These include classifications, test methods, safe handling and much more.

These standards were developed by ISO/TC 300, Solid recovered materials, including solid recovered fuels.
