24 May – European Day of Parks

The European Day of Parks (EDoP) is a commemorative day for Protected Areas across Europe that was launched in 1999 by the EUROPARC Federation, while in Serbia it was celebrated since 2001. EUROPARC is a professional network for natural and cultural heritage that improves the management of protected areas in Europe through international cooperation, exchange of experiences and ideas, as well as policy influence. Every year on 24 May, members of EUROPARC organize various activities to draw attention to the importance and benefits of the existence of all protected areas

The European Day of Parks celebrates the creation of the 1st National Parks in Europe – a set of nine parks created in Sweden in 1909.

Serbia has five national parks, namely Fruška gora, Đerdap, Kopaonik, Tara and Šar-planina, and they are all included in EUROPARC. These parks are adorned with landscapes of unreal beauty, diverse flora and fauna, invaluable cultural, historical and natural monuments, as well as numerous lookouts overlooking untouched nature.

Since the parks contribute to the fight against carbon dioxide and reducing the effects of the greenhouse, ISS reminds readers of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), especially goal 13 - Climate Action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. The European organizations for standardization CEN and CENELEC, with their 816 standards that contribute to this goal, want to make Europe climate neutral by 2050, boost the economy with green technology, create a sustainable industry and transport, and reduce pollution. In support of this goal, ISS has adopted 99% of European standards, and in the coming period it will emphasize all standards that contribute to the green transition, following the example of European standardization bodies, to jointly contribute to the fight against climate change. Information about all 816 European standards referring to UN SDG 13 is available on the following link: https://standards.cencenelec.eu/dyn/www/f?p=CEN:105:::::FSP_SEARCH_SDG_URL:13
