Starting in 2017, 27 June is marked worldwide as the Day of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Like any other internationally significant date, this day was established by the United Nations, which thus wanted to emphasize the importance of the MSME sector to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The contribution of small businesses to the economy is evident. They represent the pillar of any economy and significantly affect GDP and employment, as indicators of economic development. In addition, MSMEs are characterized by flexibility, creativity and innovation. Because of all this, but also due to the unfavorable consequences of the global pandemic, it is necessary for governments to actively and continuously provide support to this sector. The adoption of adequate regulations that eliminate barriers and encourage the empowerment of small and medium-sized firms creates a positive climate for realizing their full potential.
ISS also directs its activities in order to influence the strengthening of the MSME sector in our country, emphasizing the importance of applying standards for their business. For the purpose of helping them to better understand the standards, ISS offered the owners and employees in small businesses more information about the requirements of Serbian standards for which they show interest, free of charge, for half an hour. In addition, micro, small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs who have purchased a Serbian standard, related document or publication in English are entitled to a 50% discount when purchasing one copy of the same standard, related document or publication in Serbian.
