Directorate for Measures and Precious Metals celebrates 150 years of metrology

This year's World Metrology Day saw Serbia celebrate a remarkable milestone: 150 years of pioneering metrology. The journey began on 1 December, 1873, when the National Assembly boldly enacted the Law on Measures, officially embracing the decimal metric system and establishing a dedicated Department of Measures within the Ministry of Finance, tasked with meticulously controlling and comparing primary measures. Further solidifying its commitment, Serbia signed the „Meter Convention“ in 1879, forging a path for seamless industrial, commercial, and social integration of established measures not only within the country but also on the global stage. As Serbia embarks on its next 150 years of metrological excellence, one thing remains certain: its unwavering dedication to accuracy, innovation, and international collaboration will continue to steer the nation towards a brighter, more precise future.

A ceremonial academy captivated audiences as it illuminated Serbia's rich legacy of metrological achievements and shone a spotlight on the pivotal role of the Directorate for Measures and Precious Metals. Standing as a testament to both historical excellence and unwavering commitment, the Directorate seamlessly operates within the Ministry of Economy.
