Power Electronics and Standards for Sustainable Energy Solutions

The Institute for Standardization of Serbia brings together a large number of committees for standards whose members regularly hold meetings, exchange professional knowledge and monitor technological developments in their respective fields. One of them is the KS N022 Committee for Standards, Power Electronics and Semiconductor Components, which held its meeting on 17 September 2026 at the premises of the Institute.

The meeting covered various applications of power electronics, ranging from inverters for solar and wind power plants and electricity storage systems to the modernization of industrial equipment and the development of smart technologies in agriculture.

The Chair of the Committee, Mr Mihajlo Ristić, presented current challenges in inverter manufacturing and electricity storage in the context of the development of renewable energy sources, as well as requirements for electronic equipment used for monitoring, protection, regulation and control in power facilities. He particularly emphasized the importance of defining technical requirements in contracts between manufacturers and customers, while complying with applicable regulations and relevant standards.

Committee member Dejan Popović presented a practical application of power electronics, providing an example of drive synchronization as part of the reconstruction and modernization of gantry cranes at the Đerdap I Hydroelectric Power Plant in Kladovo. Dr Uroš Ilić presented robotic systems and the application of machine-learning algorithms in organic farming, enabling the early detection of plant problems, more efficient use of resources and reduced pesticide use.

Dr Nikola Mirković presented modular uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, which play an important role in ensuring the continuity of operation of critical infrastructure, such as hospitals and control centres. Particular attention was given to advanced semiconductor technologies that enable greater energy efficiency, lower losses and greater system flexibility.

The meeting provided an opportunity to highlight, through practical examples, the importance of standardization in the development and application of advanced energy technologies, as well as the need for continuous knowledge exchange among experts, researchers and industry.

Standards as Support for the Energy Transition

The importance of standardization in the energy sector will also be highlighted at the International Energy Fair and the Environmental Protection Fair “EcoFair”, which will be held from 21 to 23 October 2026 in Belgrade. The Institute for Standardization of Serbia will participate as an exhibitor, giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about the Institute’s services and activities, benefit from special offers and attend a professional presentation on an energy-related topic.

Through its participation in trade fairs, as well as through the work of its committees for standards, the Institute contributes to the exchange of professional knowledge and to connecting standardization with advanced technological solutions and the needs of industry.
