EU-ASEAN Dialogue

European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) established a cooperation program "Improving EU-ASEAN Regional Dialogue". As part of this program, a two-day online meeting dedicated to Eurocodes was held last week, and it was an excellent opportunity for European experts to share their knowledge and experience in adopting and using Eurocodes with more than a hundred participants from Cambodia.

On this occasion, ISS was invited, as a national standardization body from the Balkan region, to present the successful implementation of Eurocodes in the national standardization system and legislation. Experience in adopting Eurocodes as Serbian standards, as well as the introduction of Eurocodes in the legislative framework was shared by Jelena Skoković, ISS NTC Secretary of the KS U250-2, Design of concrete structures, KS U250-5, 6, Calculation of timber and masonry structures and KS U250-3, 4, 9, Steel structures, composite structures of steel and concrete and aluminum structures.

The aim of the workshop was to raise awareness of Eurocodes and the importance of these standards for harmonization in the construction market and the removal of barriers to international trade. Also, the dialogue on Eurocodes is expected to contribute to a coherent approach in the adoption of standards for the design of structures among ASEAN member states, which are currently in various stages of adoption of Eurocodes at the national level.
