The Institute for Standardization of Serbia hosted the Secretary-General of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Sergio Mujica, on July 13, 2026.
During the visit, meetings were held with the management and representatives of the Institute, employees, members of national standards committees, and stakeholders. The discussions focused on the future of international standardization, digital transformation, SMART standards, copyright protection, new models of standards accessibility, and potential applications of artificial intelligence, as well as strengthening international and regional cooperation.
Particular attention was dedicated to the role of national standards bodies in the modern environment, increasing the involvement of young professionals in the standardization system, and fostering a more active participation of Serbian experts in international work.
The interactive discussion with representatives of the business sector, institutions, and the professional public who participate in the work of national standards committees primarily centered on innovations in the standards development process and the new, "smartified" format of standards that lies ahead in the near future. The participants also discussed current challenges and developmental directions of international standardization, alongside the importance of standards for improving quality, competitiveness, innovation, and market trust.
"It is a great honor for the Institute for Standardization of Serbia to have had the opportunity to host the ISO Secretary-General. This visit is a confirmation of the excellent cooperation we share with the International Organization for Standardization, as well as the significant role the Institute plays in the ISO Council. It also provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views on the future of standardization in an era of accelerated digital transformation. We are confident that these discussions will contribute to further strengthening our cooperation with ISO and to Serbia's even more active participation in the development of international standards," said Tatjana Bojanić, Acting Director of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia.
