Dr Vladica Čudić, representative of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia (ISS) and member of Technical Committee KS Z183, Circular Economy and Waste Management, is participating in the Eighth Plenary Meeting of ISO Technical Committee ISO/TC 323, Circular Economy, taking place in Lima, Peru, from 12 to 17 October 2026.
The meeting is hosted by the National Institute for Quality of Peru (INACAL PERÚ) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP).
The working sessions and technical objectives of the meeting are aligned with the recently approved Strategic Business Plan of ISO/TC 323. One of the priorities is the consideration of the first draft of ISO 59001, which addresses circular economy management systems.
A significant part of the work is also devoted to the systematic review and updating of published standards in the ISO 59000 series, with the aim of improving their consistency and practical implementation in the marketplace.
Particular attention is being given to the development of standards and guidelines for extended producer responsibility (EPR), in cooperation with the European Committee for Standardization's Technical Committee CEN/TC 473, Circular Economy.
Another important objective is to facilitate the integration of circular economy standards with existing management systems, particularly ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 9001 for quality management. This approach aims to simplify the implementation of requirements and reduce the administrative burden, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The Eighth Plenary Meeting represents an important step towards bridging the gap between awareness of the importance of the circular economy and its practical implementation. By developing mutually aligned standards, the conditions are being created to move from general principles to concrete, measurable and actionable solutions across industries worldwide.
