ISS and CYS Strengthen Partnership in the Field of Standardization

As part of the CEN and CENELEC meeting, which is being held in Cyprus from June 16 to 19June, a bilateral meeting was held between representatives of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia (ISS) and the Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS).

During the meeting, opportunities to enhance cooperation, the foundations of which were laid by the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023, were discussed. In accordance with this document, the two organizations agreed to promote an effective standardization policy through joint activities, with a view to fully realizing the socio-economic benefits arising from the application of standards.

The Memorandum of Understanding also aims to formalize cooperation in areas of mutual interest and to foster research and other forms of cooperation between the two organizations within the broader field of quality infrastructure. Particular emphasis was placed on organizing joint training activities, exchanging experience in the process of developing national standards, and sharing information and best practices in the field of standardization.

Representatives of ISS and CYS also discussed specific areas in which the two national standards bodies could contribute to a more effective implementation of standards and to increasing their visibility and significance in society and the economy.

This year, the CEN and CENELEC General Assembly is being held while Cyprus holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The high-level sessions are dedicated to the Organization’s Strategy 2030 and forthcoming standardization policies, to address the challenges of modern society and the needs of the European market.

During the General Assembly, delegates discuss and adopt decisions on key policies and strategic directions, including the approval of the Response Strategy, the business model and innovative approaches, the strengthening of European partnerships, and the alignment of work programmes with the priorities of the European Commission, such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and the green transition.

Such meetings represent an important opportunity to strengthen international cooperation, exchange knowledge and experience, and undertake joint actions aimed at developing a modern, efficient, and sustainable standardization system.
