Sport plays an important role in promoting social integration, economic development and connectivity, peace and understanding among people around the world. The Day of Sport is celebrated to transmit sporting values to future generations that will help them grow and develop in a healthy and proper way.
On 23 August, 2013, the United Nations adopted a resolution proclaiming 6 April as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. This day also marks the anniversary of the opening of the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. In ancient Greece, the Olympic Games were so important that all wars were interrupted to honor their organization and duration. The famous Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games, emphasized that „it is not important to win, it is important to participate“, to be a part of something much bigger and more important that sport brings with it.
On the Day of Sport, 6 April, the "BEO HIKING FEST" is organized for the first time in Belgrade. This is a fair-type event that promotes hiking, but also other outdoor sports. This is an opportunity for lovers of outdoor sports activities to get acquainted, among other things, with outdoor sports equipment produced according to the latest standards. This is an excellent indicator that standards follow us everywhere and take care of our safety when we want to play sports.
When choosing equipment for staying in nature or practicing individual sports, such as canyoning, mountaineering, hiking, via ferrata, mountain biking, etc., it is very important to pay attention to whether the equipment is tested according to the relevant standards. For example, numerous properties of safety and climbing ropes are tested according to the standards SRPS EN 1891:2008 and SRPS EN 892:2023; protective mountaineering helmets must meet the requirements of the standard SRPS EN 12492:2012, while protective gloves for these sports must be in accordance with ISO 23388:2018, the standard on requirements, test methods, marking and necessary information related to mechanical risks from abrasion, cutting, tearing, perforation and impact, in combination with the standard SRPS EN ISO 21420:2020 which gives general requirements and test methods for protective gloves.
In addition to the mentioned ones, there are many other standards for different types of sports, sports equipment, environment, etc., which are available on the ISS website.
