The construction industry is of strategic importance to every country since it provides the conditions and infrastructure necessary for the development of the economy and society. Therefore, it is important that this, like any other area of social life, be standardized. For this reason, leading activities in this area relate to the standardization of structural design (Eurocode standards), without being limited to this area only, as numerous standards in the construction industry have been developed to determine the performance characteristics and methods of evaluating construction products and materials and to ensure the necessary testing and/or calculation methods for them.
Eurocodes, as a set of harmonized technical rules for the calculation of building structures, provide common design rules for the everyday calculation of traditional and modern structures as a whole or their elements. They enable a common understanding of structural design among all participants in the construction process, a common basis for further research and development, increased competitiveness, and the free movement of construction products and engineering services on the single European market. These are just some of the elements that ensure the widespread application of Eurocodes and the possibility of their further improvement.
In accordance with the Construction Regulations, the application of Eurocode standards is mandatory when designing and constructing new buildings and reconstructing existing ones. Recognizing the need of the professional community to quickly provide a large number of standards for the design and construction of structures, the Serbian Institute for Standardization has published a series of thematic electronic collections of Eurocodes and their corresponding national annexes. To assist in the application of the Eurocode 2 standard for the design of concrete structures and its national annex, a handbook entitled „Examples of calculations of concrete buildings according to Eurocode 2“ can be downloaded from the Institute's website. Standards for the design of concrete structures are used in conjunction with the standard for the execution of concrete structures SRPS EN 13670:2012, Execution of concrete structures, which was published in Serbian in September. The Standards Commission KS U071, responsible for the standardization of concrete, reinforced and prestressed concrete, is working on preparing a national annex for this standard in order to further define the requirements and recommendations for the execution of concrete structures.
At the same time, we would like to inform you that the Institute's website now features a publicly accessible Portal for Construction Products, providing a wealth of information on this and other topics related to the application of the Law on Construction Products (Official Gazette of the RS, No. 83/2018, of 29 October, 2018).
