Draft standard for QMS in the field of AI in public inquiry stage – Get involved!

The full commitment of European Standardization Organizations to developing comprehensive, inclusive, and high-quality European standards to support the EU Artificial Intelligence Act has resulted in the adoption of a special package of interim measures to accelerate the adoption of key standards supporting EU legislation. Based on these measures, which are in line with the existing Internal Rules of Standardization applied in European Standardization Organizations, draft standards approved during the public inquiry are published immediately after the public inquiry period is concluded. Furthermore, for the six projects with the largest delays in development, a smaller working group has been formed from currently active experts who will prepare working documents for consideration by the working groups.

One of the key documents that will support the future conformity assessment framework in the EU Artificial Intelligence Act is the draft standard currently under public inquiry: naSRPS EN 18286:2025, Artificial intelligence - Quality management system for EU AI Act regulatory purposes.

The Institute for Standardization of Serbia invites all interested domestic experts to read this draft standard, which is in the public inquiry stage, and submit their comments using the comment form by January 1st, 2026. Reading the draft standard is accessible to everyone upon prior registration on the ISS website.

Simultaneously, in anticipation of the International Summit on AI Standards taking place this year in Seoul (South Korea) from December 2 to 3, the IEC Academy launched a series of four webinars in October. These webinars cover the role of international standards for trustworthy AI, the need to incorporate socio-technical dimensions into standard development, a deeper understanding of human rights and standards, and the importance of international cooperation in developing AI standards. Following the successful completion of two webinars, the IEC Academy continues with the remaining webinars in the series, “Countdown to the International Summit on AI Standards,” on November 3 and 24.

The Institute for Standardization of Serbia invites all interested domestic experts to register (link to registration: https://www.iec.ch/academy/webinars/deepening-understanding-human-rights-and-standards), and actively engage in the discussions shaping the future of standardization in this field.

At the Institute for Standardization of Serbia, issues related to artificial intelligence are currently handled by the ISS NTC I1/07, Software engineering, IT for educatiоn and Intеrnet. However, given the rapid development of this field and the increasing number of activities at the international level, a new committee is expected to be formed, dedicated exclusively to standards in the field of artificial intelligence. One of the goals is to enable more active participation of domestic experts in the development of international and European standards that will support legislation in regulating the field of artificial intelligence, as monitoring the latest trends in this area is of paramount importance for the economy, science, and society as a whole.
