On Friday, 26 June 2020, at the "Klub poslanika", Tolstojeva No.2, Belgrade, the first national accredited symposium on the subject of safety in healthcare institutions, was successfully organized. The symposium was organized by the Institute for Standardization of Serbia (ISS) in cooperation with Center for Risk Analysis and Crisis Management, and under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia and in partnership with the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection.
The symposium was attended by 50 participants employed by the different healthcare institutions from all over Serbia. In accordance with the recommendations from the competent authorities, all safety measures have been performed: the use of protective equipment (masks and gloves), disinfectants, with the appropriate seating arrangement in the meeting hall. After the lecture, the participants had the opportunity to do an exercise, using actual examples from practice. Also, completing the test at the beginning and at the end of the symposium made it possible to compare the levels of knowledge of the most important issues and evaluate the positive effect of attending the symposium.
Marinko Radić, General Secretary to the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, gave the opening word, and doc. dr Verica Jovanović, from the Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr Milan Jovanović Batut", welcomed the participants.
The lecturers at the symposium were: dr Zoran Keković, dr Slađana Jović, dr Nenad Putnik, from Faculty of Security Studies, doc. dr Verica Jovanović, from the Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr Milan Jovanović Batut", Zlatko Petrović, from to the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Aleksandar Bratić, company „Standards & Solutions“, dr Dragana Popović and Violeta Nešković-Popović, ISS representatives.
At the symposium, the following subjects were discussed: safety and emergency management, as well as reducing the risk of disasters in healthcare institutions, the response of the healthcare system in case of emergency, data protection in computer systems, the application of regulations on personal data protection in healthcare institutions, etc. The following documents were particularly mentioned and emphasized: Societal and Citizen Security - Guidance for managing security in healthcare facilities (CEN/TS 16850:2015), Law on Personal Data Protection, New European regulations for medical devices (MDR, 2017/745/EU), Laboratory bio-risk management (CWA 15793), as well as Serbian standards important for this field: SRPS EN ISO 13485, SRPS EN ISO 14971, SRPS EN 15224 and standard series SRPS ISO/IEC 27000.
All symposium participants received SRPS EN ISO 27799 for information security management in health, which was published in Serbian language.
