New Law on Road Traffic Safety entered into force

All interested parties are provided with a large number of standards that regulate this area.

Due to numerous traffic news, the new Law on Road Traffic Safety came into force. These changes primarily refer to the possibility of confiscating the vehicle in situations that, in practice so far, were not provided for. It is also proposed to reduce the age limit for taking the C and D category due to the increased need for truck and bus drivers.

The new law also regulates the driving of electric scooters. The so-called "light electric vehicles" will now be able to move on bicycle paths, where they exist. In case they have to move on the roadway, reflective vests and helmets are mandatory for drivers.

Persons under the age of 14 are not allowed to use electric scooters.

Along with the amendments to the law, the Institute for Standardization of Serbia is preparing a standard related to electric scooters, the publication of which is expected in the coming months.

As the new Law on Road Traffic Safety foresees that electric scooter drivers will also use bicycle lanes in the future, it is necessary to apply the SRPS U.S4.235:2021 standard, which regulates the criteria for marking bicycle lanes.

Traffic is an extremely important area for the entire population, participating in it in various ways on a daily basis. That's why the Institute for Standardization of Serbia adopts numerous standards in this area, which are harmonized with the Law on Traffic Safety and are available to all interested parties.
