At the end of March, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), in cooperation with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), published new editions of two highly significant standards in the field of conformity assessment—ISO/IEC 17020:2026, which relates to the operation of inspection bodies, and ISO/IEC 17024:2026, which defines requirements for bodies certifying persons. These standards represent an important step toward improving the quality, reliability, and transparency of conformity assessment processes at the global level. Their adoption into the European standardization system is expected on April 22, 2026, after which their national implementation will follow.
The Institute and the CASCO Committee for Conformity Assessment are well prepared for this process, as evidenced by the timely adoption of the translated version of ISO/IEC 17020:2026. This standard will be published as a bilingual edition, further facilitating its practical application and contributing to a better understanding of the requirements among professionals.
The implementation of these standards is expected to significantly contribute to the improvement of the conformity assessment system in Serbia, as well as to its further alignment with the best European and international practices.
