NEW ISS Regional Infocenter – opening on 19 November 2020

The mission of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia is to provide interested parties in our country and the entire public with Serbian standards, as well as the opportunity to equally participate in international and European standardization. To this end, the Institute has achieved successful cooperation with numerous organizations and individuals, which has lasted for many years with many of them. In this way, the joint efforts are aimed at promoting the application of standards and improving the conditions for the development of the entire domestic economy. In addition to always being open to cooperation with experts in various fields, institutions and companies whose activities include the direct application of standards, the Institute strives to achieve new forms of cooperation with existing partners.

This week, the Institute will be even more strongly connected with another institution whose business is based on spreading knowledge about standards and their implementation. As its name suggests, the Information Center for Business Standardization and Certification from Novi Sad (BSC Center) is focused on providing advisory services and training in the implementation of harmonized standards, as well as capacity building for conformity assessment and certification of products and persons. It was founded in 2009, by the founding act of the Government of AP Vojvodina, and it officially started working at the beginning of 2011. It was created as a result of the implementation of one of the priority programs of the Economic Development Plan of AP Vojvodina and aims to meet the needs of users in AP Vojvodina in the areas of standardization and certification. BSC Center is a regular member of the Institute, and in 2017, additional cooperation was achieved through the organization of a joint seminar dedicated to the then current changes in the standard for safety and health management. This seminar was attended by representatives of public and private companies from the territory of Vojvodina.

A new agreement on business-technical cooperation between the two institutions will be signed on Thursday, 19 November this year. It will include providing access to the database of complete texts of valid Serbian standards to all interested parties, which will make Serbian standards more accessible to users from Vojvodina. In this way, the BSC center will be another regional infocenter of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia, and users will be able to read standards in an easier and faster way and get all the necessary professional information.

By the way, one of the six regional chambers of commerce in which there are already established info centers of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia is the Regional Chamber of Commerce of Novi Sad. Soon, all users from Novi Sad and the whole of Vojvodina will have another place at their disposal where they will be able to get acquainted with the standards. In the coming period, due to the current circumstances, the mode of operation of these infocenters will be adjusted to current regulations. After the end of the stricter measures, with the return to normal living and working conditions, we expect greater attendance and uninterrupted functioning of these infocenters.

There is also the possibility of expanding this cooperation between ISS and BSC in the near future. Options for joint implementation of services, such as consulting and education, as well as the distribution of standards, will be considered.
