ISO recently published ISO/TS 24179:2020, Human resource management – Occupational health and safety metrics, as the first in a series of documents providing guidance and formula for comparable measures for internal and external reporting on human capital. The purpose of these documents is to support the efficient use of the International standards in the field of human resource management, primarily ISO 30414, Human resource management – Guidance for internal and external human capital reporting.
Technical specification ISO/TS 24179 refers to the data on occupational safety and health at the workplace and highlights issues that need to be considered when interpreting the data. This not only helps when deciding on the appropriate intervention internally, but especially when reporting to the external interested parties, such as authorities, regulators and investors. This document also deals with absences from work due to injuries at the workplace, and diseases caused by working conditions, the number of incidents, the percentage of employees who have completed the training on occupational safety and various other issues of occupational safety.
Other technical specifications in this series will cover the following aspects related to safety and health at work: compliance and ethics, costs, diversity, leadership, organizational culture, skills and abilities, succession planning and human capital availability. By applying them, the organization will achieve higher productivity more easily, respond to and fulfill the legal obligations and make the most the most efficient decisions for the company and its employees.
ISO/TS 24176:2020 can be purchased on ISS website.
In addition, taking into account the particular challenges and needs of small organizations, ISO and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), published ISO 45001:2018, Occupational health and safety management systems – A practical guide for small organizations at the beginning of this month. It provides an overview of the requirements of ISO 45001 and lists the ways in which small organizations can establish the occupational safety management system, which can be of great help to them in the application of this International standard. This guide is available for purchasing in English language on ISS web site, but ISS is planning to translate it and publish in Serbian language soon.
