Due to the pandemic, we have started doing many of our daily activities online. This also applies to ordering standards, holding trainings and meetings of national standards committees, which enables the smooth performance of ISS activities. The virtual world, however, cannot replace live contact and that is why the doors of the ISS are open again to all users. The recently installed ramp at the entrance provides unhindered access for people in wheelchairs, in accordance with the new standard SRPS EN 17210.
SRPS EN 17210, Accessibility and usability of the built environment — Functional requirements was published in June this year, and it replaced SRPS ISO 21542, Building construction — Accessibility and usability of the built environment from 2019. This document describes basic, minimum functional requirements and recommendations for an accessible and usable built environment, following "Design for All"/"Universal Design" principles which will facilitate equitable and safe use for a wide range of users, including persons with disabilities. These functional accessibility and usability requirements and recommendations are relevant to the design, construction, refurbishment or adaptation, and maintenance of built environments including outdoor pedestrian and urban areas.
SRPS EN 17210 was developed and adopted by U059, Buildings and civil engineering works. The version of this standard in Serbian language is in the preparatory stage and its publication is expected in 2023.
