On the occasion of 3 December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Institute for Standardization of Serbia and the Association for Persons with Disabilities "Phoenix" from Belgrade organized a press conference at the press center of the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS), starting at 11 am.
The conference focused on the "EU for Accessible Public Institutions" project, standards for people with disabilities and the position of people with disabilities in Serbia. Professor Branko Jokić, President of the Phoenix Association, and Dragana Jovanović, Secretary General of the Association, spoke about the experience of people with disabilities and the impact of the environment on their daily lives.
Tatjana Bojanić, ISS Director and Violeta Nešković-Popović, Head of the Department for International Cooperation, Information and Publishing presented the importance of International and European standards and how standards can positively affect the position of persons with disabilities.
Special emphasis is on the European standard published in 2021 EN 17210, Accessibility and usability of the built environment - Functional requirements, which is applied when designing, building, renovating or adapting built environments, including pedestrian and urban areas, and in which special needs of the persons with a disabilities are considered.
