Scope

IEC 60953-4:2026 is intended to establish a Supplementary Standard (SS) for routine test of steam turbines. The rules given in the SS follow the guidance given in IEC 60953-0, of course, it is one part of the 60953 series as well, It contains amendments and supplements regarding the special test requirement, the result calculation analysis, and example calculation for supervision of relative performance by routine testing of steam turbines.
General principles for the preparation, performance, evaluation, and interpretation of test results and the determination of the test repeatability are given in the SS.
The routine test means to periodically monitor performance change and diagnose defect throughout the life of steam turbine system. Major purpose of routine test will be: a) provide guidance in scheduling maintenance outage on the basis of performance. b) detect or diagnose performance change in specific area of the turbine or turbine cycle. c) monitor the performance status periodically.
This SS is applicable to routine testing covering a wide range of accuracy on steam turbines of every types, rating and application, operating with superheated or saturated steam.
The application of this standard to acceptance tests is not recommended unless the parties involved have prior written agreement. This document is intended to be used by engineers involved in operating, utility, maintenance, design or concerning about long-term performance supervision.
The clause in this SS is intended to be used easily for field engineers, so several typical calculation examples are provided.
This SS takes into account the cost of the test, so specific simplified test procedure are recommended to minimize test instrumentation and personnel. Relative accuracy and wide uncertainty range rather than acceptance test level result are expected. The repeatability of test result rather than test uncertainty is emphasized here in this SS.
