This European Standard describes the basic requirements for the design and application of explosion absorbing systems. This European Standard also specifies test methods for evaluating the effectiveness of explosion absorbing systems with regard to preventing and limiting the consequences of gas and vapor explosions. This European Standard covers:
— general requirements for explosion absorbing system components;
— evaluating the effectiveness of an explosion absorbing system;
— evaluating the scale up of an explosion absorbing system;
— installation, operation and maintenance instructions for an explosion absorbing system.
This European Standard is applicable only to explosion absorbing systems intended for the prevention and protection of closed, or essentially closed, enclosures in which an explosion may result as a consequence of ignition of an explosible mixture of gas- or vapour-air.
This European Standard is not applicable for explosions of materials listed below, or for mixtures containing some of those materials:
— unstable materials that are liable to dissociate;
— explosive materials;
— pyrotechnic materials;
— pyrophoric materials.
NOTE: If the word "harmonized" (marked in green) is not found in the field with the name of the directive, it means that the European standard is not cited in the OJEU.
