Scope

This document specifies minimum requirements applicable to design, final assessment, designation, marking and documentation for diaphragm valves:
- having unlined and lined metallic bodies;
- having weir, weirless and straight-through body designs;
- for operation with manual handwheel or actuator;
- for use with flanged, welded and threaded pipe end connections;
- used for isolating, regulating or controlling applications or any combination thereof.
The PN and Class ranges are:
- PN 6, PN 10, PN 16 and PN 25;
- Class 125 and Class 150.
The size range is:
- for flanged valves: sizes DN 15, DN 20, DN 25, DN 32, DN 40, DN 50, DN 65, DN 80, DN 100, DN 125, DN 150, DN 200, DN 250, DN 300, DN 350, DN 400, DN 450 and DN 500;
- for screwed valves: sizes NPS ¼, ⅜, ½, ¾, 1, 1¼, 1½, 2, 2½ and 3;
- for weld end valves: sizes DN 8, DN 10, DN 15, DN 20, DN 25, DN 32, DN 40, DN 50, DN 65, DN 80, DN 100, DN 125, DN 150 and DN 200.
NOTE 1 Sizes are listed in Table D.1.
This document applies to metallic diaphragm valves used for all industrial applications.
For applications in accordance with the European legislation for pressure equipment, EN 16668:2025 applies together with this document.
Additional requirements given in the relevant application standards can apply to diaphragm valves used for more specific applications (e.g. for the water industry, the chemical and petrochemical process industry).
For chemical and petrochemical applications, EN 12569:2020 apply together with this document.
For water supply applications, EN 1074-1:2000 and EN 1074-2:2000 apply together with this document.
NOTE 2 National potable water approval schemes (WRAS, DVGW, ACS, etc.) can apply in addition to the valve design standards.
For process control applications, EN 1349:2009 and EN 60534-2-1:2011 apply together with this document.
For cryogenic applications, EN 1626:2008 apply together with this document.
For fire-safe applications, EN ISO 10497:2022 apply together with this document.
For fugitive emissions applications, EN ISO 15848-1:2015+A1:2017 and EN ISO 15848-2:2015 apply together with this document.
Other specific application standards, regulatory requirements, purchaser specifications or national approval schemes can also exist and can apply depending on the intended service, installation location, fluid, pressure/temperature conditions and end-use application.
The correspondence between DN and NPS is given for information in Annex C.
