This document describes methods by which an analysis to ensure the running capability of railway vehicles can be undertaken in cases where there may be an outbreak of a fire onboard.
This document specifies the fire conditions:
- for which it is not necessary to perform a running capability analysis, as there is no significant potential for serious injury or threat to life;
- for which it is reasonable to expect railway vehicles to continue to operate in a controlled manner;
- for which it is not reasonably practicable to give assurance of operating in a controlled manner, due to the exceptional nature of the fire incident.
This document does not consider situations where the train is immobilised by a primary event that is not related to fire, such as a major mechanical defect leading to, for example, a derailment, even if a fire consequently or subsequently occurs.
