The products in scope of this standard are Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) with security-related functionalities as defined in [REF_TO_IMPLEMENTING_ACT]. Such products can implement security functionalities either by hardware only, or by hardware with firmware components.
Such ASICs and FPGAs are intended to be integrated in a larger system, complemented by application software, and optionally by additional hardware components by integrators to build a device corresponding to a given intent of use. The intent of use of the device is likely be known to the manufacturer of the ASIC with security-related functionalities, while the intent of use of the device may not be known to the manufacturer of the FPGA with security-related functionalities.
The security functionalities provided by the ASIC or FPGA can be leveraged by the application software to build an encompassing device addressing the risks identified by the integrators.
NOTE: If the word "harmonized" (marked in green) is not found in the field with the name of the directive, it means that the European standard is not cited in the OJEU.
