Scope

The scope includes:
Pipeline configurations: Thermoset (rigid) and thermoplastic (flexible) polymer and composite pipes, polymer and composite liners in
metallic pipelines (pipe in pipe), and metal reinforced polymer pipes.
Operating envelope: assessment of feasible pressure, temperature, and diameter ranges relevant to CO₂ transport, without imposing
predefined limits.
Material behaviour in CO₂ service:
- Chemical compatibility with CO₂ streams and impurities
- Corrosion resistance or rates of metallic reinforcements and metallic components
- Physical effect of CO₂ streams and impurities
- Rapid gas decompression resistance of materials and rapid gas decompression resistance, aka blow-down, of the
pipe system
- Low temperature and thermal shock resistance
- CO2 permeability of the pipe system
- Resistance of pipe systems to rapid crack propagation
Identification of failure modes unique or critical to CO₂ with impurities and whether and how these are addressed in existing standards.
Applicability and suitability of existing standards: review of national, CEN, ISO and other relevant standards for polymer and composite
pipelines, assessing their suitability for specific CO₂ service conditions without replicating existing requirements.
Current practice and use cases: documentation of existing deployments of polymer/composite systems for CO₂ transport and evaluation
of potential applications for European CCS infrastructure.
Integrity management: inspection, testing, monitoring, and predictive modelling approaches relevant and specific to polymer/composite
pipelines in CO₂ service. Also including, integrity assessment, remedial actions, repair and modification, again focussed on specific
methods and constraints for maintaining polymer/composite systems used in CO₂ transport.
The scope excludes :
- Health, safety and environmental aspects
- Quantitative lifecycle cost comparison
- Coatings for metallic pipelines
- Valves
