World Environment Day is celebrated each year on 5 June in Serbia

World Environment Day is a day that is celebrated all over the world every 5 June through various activities and campaigns with the aim of drawing public attention to numerous environmental problems and the need to preserve the environment. This date was set by the UN General Assembly because the Conference on Environmental Protection was held in Stockholm in 1972. The proposal was made by the delegation of Yugoslavia and according to some sources, this became the central event of the United Nations.

On this occasion, numerous activities are being launched in the world with the aim of encouraging a more responsible attitude towards the living environment and pointing out the serious consequences of the devastation of our planet. This year's theme is about finding solutions to plastic pollution.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has developed a large number of different standards that contribute to environmental responsibility. ISS NTC A207, Environmental management systems is following the work of the International technical committee ISO/TC 207, as well as the European technical committee CEN/SS S26. The series of standards dealing with environmental management systems - ISO 14000 attracts special attention, primarily because of the importance of environmental protection issues for organizations, their environment and the wider social community.

This year, the World Environment Day in Belgrade was marked by the “Fair of Green Ideas, Projects and Innovations” at Kalemegdan under the auspices of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
