smoke condensate retention index (Rc) of a cigarette filter

The ratio, expressed as a percentage by mass, of the crude smoke condensate retained by the filter to that entering the filter (see figure 1):

Rc = Fe / Sc x 100 = Fc / Fc + Hc x 100

where
Fc is the mass of crude smoke condensate retained by the filter;
Sc is the mass of crude smoke condensate entering the filter;
Hc is the mass of crude smoke condensate in the main-stream smoke.
