Communication and information exchange are embedded in all aspects of modern society. Technological advancements over the past few decades have enabled unprecedented levels of development. However, along with all the benefits, this progress also brings challenges such as communication disruptions, service unavailability, data theft or destruction, various types of fraud, and other problems caused by natural phenomena, technology, or human actions.
Critical infrastructure systems are particularly vulnerable to these risks, as their disruption affects a large number of citizens. Therefore, their protection requires special attention. Statistics show a continuous increase in cyber attacks targeting critical infrastructure, with attacks becoming increasingly sophisticated, both organizationally and technically, causing significant damage. Governments are aware of these threats and are responding to them with various measures, starting with regulatory frameworks. One such measure is the obligation for critical infrastructure systems to assess risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
