New EU Construction Products Regulation Adopted

According to the Official Journal of the European Union, the adoption of this regulation marks a significant milestone, resulting from years of cooperation between the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council.

During the work on the new construction products regulation, the focus was on market surveillance. The Commission found that the surveillance of construction products was not functioning optimally, and some members of the Commission discussed the importance of eco-labels. An agreement was reached that standards will continue to play a key role in the application and regulation of construction products. The need to raise awareness of the importance of using eco-labels on these products was highlighted, contributing to sustainable development. In addition, it is planned to improve market surveillance through the use of advanced digital tools.

It is expected that approximately 400 standards will be revised to align with the new regulation. Due to the scope of this work, an extended implementation period is foreseen, lasting until 2030. The main goal of the new regulation is to support the green transition while simultaneously following the digital development in the construction sector. This approach includes the introduction of new requirements for reporting on the environmental sustainability of products, which will contribute to greater transparency and support sustainable practices in the industry.
