World Energy Efficiency Day

World Energy Efficiency Day is celebrated every year on March 5th since 1998. It was initiated during the First International Conference on Energy Efficiency, with the main goal of raising awareness about the need to reduce energy consumption.

In Serbia, the Law on Energy and Rational Energy Use from 2021 significantly contributed to a more responsible attitude towards energy. In addition, in recent years, various campaigns have been implemented in our country to raise awareness about energy conservation and reduce consumption, such as „Save, Don't Waste Energy“, which aimed to provide citizens with practical advice on how to achieve energy savings.

The European Union has set stricter conditions for the qualification of energy labels for household appliances, as they are one of the largest consumers of electricity in households. Therefore, switching to more energy-efficient appliances is a significant contribution to the preservation and reduction of electricity consumption.

However, households are not the only major consumers. The Law recognized the importance of the energy efficiency standard SRPS EN ISO 50001:2018, Energy management systems - Requirements with guidance for use, and introduced an energy management system for public companies. Public companies are recognized in the Law as entities obliged to have an energy management system. The obligated entities are required to monitor and analyze their energy consumption and to keep records and submit reports on it. As another way to control consumption, the law also recognized the importance of having energy managers, who also collect and analyze data on how the obligated entities use energy. Their duties also include proposing measures and taking other activities to achieve energy efficiency.
