In a year marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lord Kelvin, the founder of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the General Meeting of this international standardization organization was held from 21 to 25 October in Edinburgh, Scotland, where Kelvin spent most of his life. The host of the meeting was the British Standards Institution (BSI), the United Kingdom's national standards body.
The meeting focused on the transition to a connected and fully "electric" society through standards and conformity assessment, enabling various sectors such as energy, health, and industrial production to be electrified and digitized to provide greater economic opportunities for all.
The meeting also addressed the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, the potential of quantum technology, and the role of standards in achieving industrial decarbonization.
The ISS delegation at this meeting consisted of Tatjana Bojanić, Acting Director of the Institute, and Violeta Nešković-Popović, Head of the Department for International Cooperation, Information, and Publishing Activities.
