World Telecommunications & Information Society Day (WTISD) has been celebrated since 2006, with the aim of raising global awareness of the possibilities of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT), as well as creating a level playing field.
May 17 has been known since 1969 as World Telecommunication Day, since the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) was founded on that day in 1865. Given the rapid development of ICT in the 21st century, a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly declared the same date as the World Information Society Day.
This year's theme of World Telecommunications & Information Society Day emphasizes their role in supporting people to stay connected, independent and healthy in later life. Demographic trends indicate the aging of the world's population and therefore the United Nations declared the period from 2021-2030 as the Decade of Healthy Aging. The international action of joint work was launched with the aim of improving the lives of older people, which is important for the sustainability of economic and health systems.
The standards follow and support the development of digital technologies, and among them is certainly the most famous series of international standards ISO/IEC 27000 https://iss.rs/sr_Cyrl/project/list. ISS adopts Serbian standards in this area (KS I224, Identification, cards, financial services and security techniques in IT), and has published two printed collections of standards "Information Technology – Information Security Management Systems" https://iss.rs/sr_Cyrl/zbirka-srpskih-standarda-informacione-tehnologije-sistemi-menadzmenta-bezbednoscu-informacija-knjiga-1_p856.html and https://iss.rs/sr_Cyrl/zbirka-srpskih-standarda-informacione-tehnologije-sistemi-menadzmenta-bezbednoscu-informacija-knjiga-2_p855.html. Also, seminars on information security were held on several occasions, in order to make it easier for users to understand these standards and their connection with legislation.
