ISO/COPOLCO (Committee for Consumer Policy), the international committee for consumer protection, promotes consumer protection policies and contributes to the technical work of ISO. COPOLCO develops guidelines and recommendations that ISO technical committees use when developing standards. This ensures that products and services are not only functional for their intended use, but also safe, understandable, and useful.
The British Standards Institution (BSI) hosted the 46th ISO/COPOLCO Plenary Session, as well as working group meetings, from May 19 to 23, 2025, in London. This year's event included several sessions and offered a variety of interesting topics, sharing practical advice on effective cooperation between national standardization bodies and consumer stakeholders, and highlighted best practices from members of this committee worldwide.
Participants had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the consumer protection perspective in the age of artificial intelligence and digital transformation. They also attended workshops related to innovations in consumer protection, product safety, and sustainability.
Over 100 participants attended this session, including representatives from the Institute for Standardization of Serbia (ISS): Zoran Nikolić from the National Consumer Organization of Serbia, and Marina Donić, Secretary of the ISS NTC Z052. ISS's participation is an opportunity to strengthen the national standardization body's ability to communicate with consumers and incorporate their needs into standards at a global level, thereby increasing the positive impact of standards on society.
