Emergency management

The business of modern organizations cannot be imagined without their presence in the virtual world. In addition to the website and online sales, orders and posts on social networks have become an indispensable part of communication and information.

The role of social media is especially important in situations where it is necessary to communicate important information at high speed. However, this can be very dangerous, because there is often an unintentional rapid spread of misinformation, which can cause great damage.

This issue is addressed by a new international standard, ISO 22329, Security and resilience - Emergency management - Guidelines for the use of social media in emergencies (https://www.iso.org/standard/50066.html). ISO 22329 provides guidance on how organizations and the public can use and communicate through social media before, during and after an incident. In addition, this document provides guidance on how social platforms can support the work of emergency services in emergency management. It is also applicable to governmental and non-governmental organizations dealing with emergency management and crisis communication.
