Involving young people from all over the world in standardization activities is a project launched at the end of last year by the ISO committee for developing countries - ISO DEVCO, whose president at the time was Mrs. Mojdeh Tabari. The results of this global connection of students are already visible and concrete: ISINEG was founded - the Institute for International Standards of Next Generation, within which several student technical committees and working groups were established, whose members are already engaged in the adoption of student standards.
ISS is proud to announce the successful participation of Jovana Nikolić as a representative of our country in these student workshops. Jovana is currently in postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences in Kragujevac. She was nominated as a member of the first student technical committee, ISINEG/TC 1 Climate Change, in charge of standards belonging to the field of climate change, in which she was elected as the Chairperson of the Working Group WG 6 Food Waste Management. Her task is to organize and lead online meetings of this group, which consists of students from 8 other countries: Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Trinidad and Tobago, Tanzania and Togo.
The first meeting of WG 6 was held on 10 July this year, and on that occasion, a proposal for a new work assignment on the topic "General requirements for food waste management" was adopted, which will soon be sent to all members of ISINEG/TC 1 for voting. The importance of this topic on the global level is included in the statement that it can be directly linked to two UN Sustainable Development Goals – No. 13 Climate Action and No. 2 Zero Hunger.
Until now, ISS has regularly announced series of online workshops, which were often held on weekends. The meeting of WG 6 was also held on Sunday, on the very day that was declared in Serbia as the National Day of Science, in honor of the birth of the great scientist Nikola Tesla.
