This year is of great importance to the European Union, because it marks three decades of existence of the single market. Removing administrative barriers meant facilitating trade through reducing bureaucracy. The application of the EN standards certainly contributed to the good functioning of the European market.
The unique system of European standardization made it possible to apply the same standards in the entire EU market. This provided consumers with an equal level of quality and safety of products and services in all countries, while complying with legal regulations. In addition, the standards had a positive impact on the competitive position of European companies at the global level.
The jubilee celebration is not only an opportunity to recall the achieved results, but also to prepare for future challenges. The role played by European standards is important for the strengthening, resilience and stability of the European search engine. The European Organizations for Standardization, CEN and CENELEC, by adopting the European standardization development strategy, identified the most important tasks and confirmed their orientation towards achieving common goals.
CEN and CENELEC bring together a large number of experts from all over Europe who are committed to creating conditions for the development of all economic sectors, with the involvement of all European countries. This very year, the jubilee year of the existence of the common market, the Institute for Standardization of Serbia will host the CEN and CENELEC General Assembly meetings. Representatives of their members, national standardization bodies, will determine guidelines for the further development of European standardization at a four-day meeting in Belgrade.
