Standard SRPS EN 844:2019, Round and sawn timber – Terminology, now available in Serbian

The field of round and sawn timber is covered by numerous standards, essential for organizations involved in sustainable forest management, conservation, protection, cultivation, and utilization of forests, as well as forest and land management. These standards are also invaluable for forestry students and professors, experts, forest inspectors, and organizations engaged in primary wood processing in sawmills and the production of wood-based materials for various applications (carpentry products, parquet flooring, wood paneling, pallets, packaging, etc.).

In late July 2024, the Serbian standard SRPS EN 844:2019, Round and sawn timber – Terminology, was published. This standard is a translation of the European standard EN 844:2019 and defines general terms for sawn timber and round timber used in European standards. Its significance lies in providing a foundation for standardizing terminology in other standards related to round and sawn timber.

This standard, along with other standards in the field of round and sawn timber, falls under the purview of the ISS NTC D218, Round and sawn timber.

Professor Branko Glavonjić from the Faculty of Forestry, representatives of the public enterprises for forest management "Srbijašume" and "Vojvodinašume," as well as a representative of the company "Tarkett DOO" from Bačka Palanka, actively participated in the NTC´s work on the development of this standard, significantly enhancing the quality of the term translation.

Every standard has a lifecycle, after which it is either confirmed, withdrawn, or replaced by a new standard. The importance of this standard is evident in the fact that it replaces twelve previous parts of the standard, which are now consolidated into a new edition to keep users up-to-date with the latest developments, enable them to operate in accordance with the standards, and apply them appropriately.

For easier searching of terms in Serbian, a national Annex NA – Comparative register of terms in Serbian and English is available to users, which is an integral informative part of this standard.
